Betting Returns and Net Profit: How to Calculate Your Result

The total return is the amount received after settlement and may include the original stake. The net result is the sum of returns received minus the stakes on the settled bets. The number of winning selections alone does not tell you whether you made money.

One bet: a win, a loss or a refund

Assume a hypothetical stake of 20 units at decimal odds of 1.80, without fees or bonuses. The financial result depends on settlement:

Settlement of 20 units at odds of 1.80
OutcomeReceivedNet result
Win36+16
Loss0−20
Full refund200

A refund is not a profit: money previously staked has been returned. On a win, calling the entire 36 units “profit” overstates the result by the original stake.

How can you win twice and make no profit?

Consider three separate bets, each with a stake of 10 units at odds of 1.50. If two win and one loses, you receive 15 + 15 + 0 = 30 units after staking 30. The net result is zero.

The win rate is approximately 66.67%, yet it produces no profit. If the two winners had odds of 2.00, with the same stakes and outcomes, the return would be 40 and the net result +10. Stakes and prices matter as much as the number of wins.

The formula for a group of settled bets

Net result = total returns received − total stakes on settled bets

Use the same currency and reporting period, and include losing and refunded bets. Do not add an open bet’s potential return to realised receipts. Deposits and withdrawals are movements of funds, not betting profits or losses in themselves.

A 1xBet balance can change because of deposits, withdrawals and bonuses as well as bets. The difference between two balance screenshots is therefore insufficient to calculate betting performance unless you account for all those movements.

What should a results log contain?

  • The date and bet reference, event, market and selection.
  • The stake and accepted odds, rather than a price seen after the match.
  • The settlement status and amount actually received.
  • The net result and any fees.
  • The reason for the selection, written before the event so it is not reinterpreted after the outcome.

Bonuses and free bets may have different conditions, such as not returning the nominal stake or restricting withdrawals. Keep them separate from ordinary cash-bet examples. Consult the bonus calculator and offer terms rather than automatically treating their displayed amounts as withdrawable cash.

Worked exercise: three bets at odds of 1.80

You stake 20 units on each bet. Two win and one loses. Total stakes are 60 and total returns are 36 + 36 = 72. The net result is 72 − 60 = 12 units.

Does a winning-slip screenshot establish profitability?

No. If genuine, it may show the outcome of one bet, but it does not show all stakes and losing bets. A complete record is more informative than a selected screenshot, and even a genuine past record does not guarantee future results.
