Which information is confirmed?
Record the competition, venue, kick-off time and relevant period. Distinguish an officially announced lineup from a predicted lineup, and a confirmed absence from a rumour. Prefer the club, competition or another identifiable original source over an unattributed screenshot.
An update can invalidate part of an earlier analysis. A historical match breakdown in the channel illustrates a method; it is not current team news. The examples here do not recommend a bet on an upcoming match.
How should you read recent form and head-to-head data?
Write the sample size and dates, then consider opponent strength, home/away context, lineup changes and whether the matches are comparable. Three high-scoring games do not establish a reliable future goal probability.
Head-to-head results from different coaches or squads can be weak context. Separate observations such as “four of five games had three goals” from the much stronger claim “the next game has an 80% chance of over 2.5”. The second statement needs a defensible estimation method.
How do prices and assumptions fit together?
At decimal odds of 1.30, raw implied probability is approximately 76.92%; at 10.00 it is 10%, not 9%. Neither is the margin-free true probability. A value calculation needs an independent probability estimate, and its uncertainty should be visible.
If you assume a 60% chance at odds of 1.80, expected net return per unit in a simple win-or-lose model is 0.60 × 1.80 − 1 = +0.08. At 50% it becomes −0.10. The assumed probability changes the conclusion; the formula does not validate the assumption.
What should the final checklist contain?
- The exact market and covered period, including any goal line.
- Confirmed facts and their sources or timestamps.
- The sample behind the statistics and its limitations.
- The probability assumption and how sensitive the conclusion is to it.
- The accepted price, stake and later settlement in the record.
For combined selections, every condition must be met: “win and over 2.5” needs a win and at least three goals. Correct arithmetic matters even when the match story sounds convincing.
Can you decide not to bet after doing the analysis?
Yes. Unclear information or an unsupported estimate is a valid reason to stop. A good-looking checklist does not remove sporting uncertainty or financial risk.
