What do positive and negative handicaps mean?
A positive handicap adds a virtual advantage to the selected team; a negative handicap removes one. Read the line from that team’s perspective. A selection on Team A at −1 asks a different question from Team A to win.
For an ordinary pre-match Asian handicap, add the line to Team A’s goal difference. A positive adjusted difference wins, a negative one loses, and zero on a whole-number line returns the stake. This describes settlement, not the probability of winning.
How do Asian 0, +0.5 and −1 settle?
| A’s result | Line | Settlement |
|---|---|---|
| Draw | 0 | Full refund |
| Draw | +0.5 | Win |
| Win by one goal | −1 | Full refund |
| Win by two goals | −1 | Win |
| Draw | −1 | Loss |
Asian 0 and Draw No Bet have the same result conditions when their period and rules match. Asian +0.5 covers a win or draw for the selected team; its price need not equal the equivalent double-chance price. A refund is the original stake returned, with zero profit.
Why is European handicap different?
An ordinary European handicap market has three outcomes, including an adjusted draw. If A wins 2–1 and its line is −1, the adjusted result is 1–1. The handicap-draw selection wins; backing A to win with that handicap loses. The draw does not produce the Asian-style push.
Check whether the interface offers an explicit handicap draw, and read its rules. Cancellations can still lead to void bets; “no push on an adjusted draw” does not mean no refund is ever possible.
What does Asian −1.25 mean?
It divides the stake equally between −1 and −1.5. With 20 units at decimal odds of 2.00, each half is 10 units:
- A wins by two or more: both halves win; total return 40, net profit 20.
- A wins by exactly one: −1 is refunded and −1.5 loses; total return 10, net loss 10.
- A draws or loses: both halves lose.
This corrects an old channel example that called a one-goal win on −1.25 a full refund. The split produces a half loss.
Which score and period should you use?
A standard full-match football market commonly uses 90 minutes plus stoppage time, excluding extra time and penalties unless specified otherwise. First-half and in-play markets can use different periods; some live handicaps concern only the score after the bet. Confirm the scope before calculating.
Does a handicap make a bet safe?
No. It changes the condition and price. A positive start or a possible refund still permits losses and does not establish value.
